Energy · Plain-English guide
Should you fix your energy tariff or stay on the price cap?
Your monthly Direct Debit is not the price of your energy. The useful comparison is the unit rates, standing charges and total cost based on your own annual use.

The simple checklist
Do these in order
- Find your annual gas and electricity use in kWh on a bill or statement.
- Compare both unit rates and both daily standing charges.
- Check how long the fix lasts and whether prices can change during it.
- Note every exit fee and any condition attached to a reward or credit.
- Choose only after comparing the estimated annual total—not the suggested Direct Debit.
